The NPPF is the largest Real Estate Developer in the country. The credit goes to, the then managers of the GEPF i.e. RICB who had initiated the scheme in the late 70s . As of today, the NPPF owns 501 flats, 3 shops (fully rented out) with 68 Nos. buildings in four major towns of Bhutan. Further, 19 more buildings with 147 flats and 14 units shops and office spaces are under construction. The project will be completed by early 2005. The construction of a shopping space below Indo-Bhutan Friendship Hospital is in the pipeline and the works will be started very soon.

The rationales for investment in real estate are several, the following factors are significant:

• To generate adequate returns on the investment over a long term period.
• To provide decent accommodations to the PF members.
• To assist society at large in view of the acute housing problems in urban towns of Bhutan.
